Artist Statement
Painting is my way of expressing thought and emotion, passion through color and light. Observing, absorbing, reflecting then communicating without words, I transpose images delicately to present a place or moment in time. Light passing through or brushing the surface of a leaf or the seemingly infinite blue sky filling in the spaces between cloud forms awakens my senses, taking my mind to another space. In this space, the complexity of nature is broken down into intensity and saturation of color and form as it is defined from the light moving on or around, or shining from within a subject.
I can easily lose myself in what I am painting. A spiritual energy passes through my hand and brush to create a connection, one between my senses and a surface others can physically touch but truly embrace, making it a reality all their own. I simply paint an impression of a subject or scene, a record of a moment in time, using gentle layers of color. Each painting leads to another and eventually one, then two and three will surface forming a collection of related images, each with their own breath and voice. Over time, a family grows with a common resemblance throughout even the most distant relatives. I never seem to allow enough time to develop all of my interests and ideas into paintings. Knowing this, I will continue to always find the time to create more paintings while encouraging others to do the same.
